Day 71 - Tomato Jam

I know its been a while since my last post. Got really busy the past month with preparation for our vacation to India. We went to India for three weeks. Fortunately my bro George was kind enough to make sure to water the plants every day while we were gone. Looks like he did a good job. The results are to be seen. Without further adieu, the awesome threesome are below

Tomatoes abound!
A closer look
They look shiny, almost looks like they are ready to be plucked out

A pepper pablano too! The leaves are worrying me though, this plant doesn't look too healthy

Harvest! I hope I didn't harvest this too early

Pepper habanero, growing well, I guess this one will take a while to bear fruit

Day 6 - Three's Company

Adding two more plants to our little garden today.
  • Pepper Poblano
  • Pepper Habanero
Yes its pepper fever! The Poblano is actually a set of three plants, not sure if the pot we have is big enough for the three of them. Will check out some more pots and replace this one.

We don't really use too many Pepper Poblano's in our cooking (capsicum as we call it in India). If we get a good crop we'll add more of this to our diet.

Pepper Habanero - I know about this from a nice lady at work who makes super spicy salsa with Habaneros that leaves everyone gasping for air and water due to its intense heat. We are going to try to grow this and maybe replace green chillies, that'll be $0.05 saved from our Indian store grocery bill, go garden savings!

$4      - Pepper Poblano
$1      - Pepper Habanero
$4      - Clay designed Pot
$2      - Small pot
=====
$11    - Total cost

$24    - Total cost for 2011

Day 0

Getting started this day of May 15th 2011 with our first tomato plant. We've been thinking of putting some potted plants in the limited space we have in our patio area. Today we begin.

Quick stop at Walmart bought a Celebrity brand tomato plant, a big yellow plastic pot, some plastic sticks to keep the tomato plant up, a regular size bag of potting soil and that's it!

Cost
$4 - 1 Celebrity Tomato Plant
$3 - 1 Potting Soil
$1 - 1 Plant support sticks
$5 - 1 Plastic pot
===
$13

$13 - Total for 2011

We probably have enough space for about 10 more pots. Future plans include blueberry, green chillies, curry leaves, flowering plants and a whole lot more!

Celebrity stands lonely on day  O, more coming soon
